Glenn Gardiner 1920 – 2011.

 

My grandfather was a great man. Humble and talented. I realized with his passing what an influence he has had on me. My interest in opera, in theatre,  the idea that you could be an artist – all this I can trace back to him. An his experience in a POW camp in WWII provided the clearest argument I’ve ever needed about why we make art: that after food and shelter, it is a basic human need.
